Doug Kirkpatrick

Nickname: Douglas (65 stories)
Doug Kirkpatrick from Melbourne, currently in Sydney

Born and raised in Melbourne (cold and damp most of the time but a hip and friendly place). Spent my adult life in the United States, studying and then doing radio, TV and film.

Whenever I came back to Australia on holidays I noticed lots of navel gazing going on -- self-appointed cultural dieties and others busily trying to identify our so-called 'values' and 'national identity'. I could see no benefit in any of this. It seemed to me like trying to shovel fleas across a barnyard. I wanted to know what it was like to >be< Australian.

So I started 'Being Australian' to find out from others what being Australian looks and feels like.

It's early days. But 103 third-year marketing students have already shown why people everywhere can laugh and learn simply by sharing experiences that feel 'Australian.'

If you like the concept behind Being Australian, please tell someone you know ~ encourage them to share something they've experienced that feels 'Australian'.

Being Australian is your story. It's about the experiences you have - not your values. Hope you like it so far.
