Weekday oasis of calm

an experience of country and coast

Australia's most famous beach is buzzing on summer weekends. But on weekdays, especially in the winter, the place is a oasis of tranquility and calm.

About the only people you'll find there, while the rest of us are at work, are a few locals with time on their hands, the odd sprinkle of wayward visitors and the handful of rare and unusual local characters who make sure the character of the place remains colourful.

The permanent features of Bondi Beach are the surf lifesavers. Frequently, you'll see them whirling up and down the beach on 4-wheel ATVs (quad-bikes) often with 'standard-issue' surfboards clinging to the side.

Of course, there are the fabulous local shops, bars, and restaurants keeping folks well watered and fed. In between is a swathe of fabulously interesting locally-owned shops along Campbell Parade and in the streets nearby.

Part sophisticated, part bohemian, part escape, pure indulgence, Bondi Beach Sydney is well worth a weekday trip because then you get to see, experience and enjoy the more contemplative mood without the overwhelm of weekend crowds. And the local shops and cafes are always pleased to see you.
