The Big Fruit Bowl - Bilpin, New South Wales

Bilpin is a small town in the heart of a famous apple growing region of New South Wales. Bilpin is synonymous with apples and the rather large Fruit Bowl leaves no doubt that Bilpin is the place to go for apples or some apple juice.

Rich soil around Bilpin attracted early settlers eager to establish farms producing fruit and sustains the rainforest and huge tree ferns around nearby Mount Tomah.

Just as other towns around Australia boast something 'big', so Bilpin has it's own big fruit bowl.

Other attractions include the Waratah Native Garden featuring numerous native shrubs and scenic bush walk through gullies to a waterfall and waterhole.

Garden lovers will also enjoy the Mount Tomah Botanic Garden situation on 15-million-year-old basaltic lava platform. Spanning 28 hectares, Mount Tomah Botanic Garden boasts an excellent collection of cool climate plants from around the world, particularly rhododendrons and conifers. There is the Rock Garden with ponds and waterfalls and a European-style formal Garden with herbs and rose beds. The setting is ideal for a picnic or a barbeque. Facilities are provided. The visitor centre balcony provides one of the most spectacular views in New South Wales.

Daylight saving time offers the best opportunity to enjoy the sights and scenes of Bilpin. There is a lot to see. Accommodation options include the Bilpin Leisure Resort Motel (02) 4567 2117 and Cottages & Cabins (02) 4567 8224 while meals can be found at the Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens Restaurant (02) 4567.
