Messaging Feature Now Available
Sydney, 20 August 2005 A new person-to-person messaging feature lets readers send questions and comments to people who have logged experiences on BeingAustralian.com.au. Messaging is the first of several communications features to help promote awareness and communication among people about experiences of life in Australia, according to Being Australian founder, Doug Kirkpatrick. "People have told us they want the ability to send questions and comments to authors of stories published on the website. This feature allows them to do that for all stories and future feature articles as well." The messaging feature works just like private email. Members can receive messages from anonymous users as well as other members. Planned enhancements will allowing members to manage and control the types of messages they receive based on sender or story and archive messages they wish to keep and respond to later. Members can also choose which messages they want publicly displayed below their individual stories. In this way, messages from others become topic threads about people's experiences. Anyone visiting the site can send an anonymous message in response to something they have seen on the website, but only registered members of Being Australian can receive messages. Kirkpatrick says all messages are subject to Being Australian's content filters to keep them "family-friendly". "Our goal is to make sure Being Australian remains fun and informative for everyone everywhere." Being Australian is an Internet-enabled community development and communications venture bringing people closer together through humour and contemplation about life in Australian contexts.
