Ironfest -- An annual celebration of culture and innovation with metals of the ages
Most people probably don't think of their relationship to iron, or even think they have such a relationship. But the people of Lithgow know all about their iron. Every ANZAC weekend, Lithgow's Ironfest explores and celebrates man's myriad connections with iron and other metals. Ironfest has been described as "An Arts festival with a Metal Edge!" The annual cultural heritage festival is held at Lithgow Showgrounds and features art exhibitions, stalls, live music, street performance, historical re-enactments, blacksmithing demonstrations, workshops, busking competitions, automotive displays, educational, historical and technological displays and lots more! The event also hosts the annual Australasian World Jousting Tournament as well as a colonial battle re-enactment, which includes cavalry and live fire from with three cannons. In addition to fascinating displays of the uses of iron down through the centuries, Ironfest theatrically explores humanity?s relationship with iron, steel and other metals. Reenactments of medieval jousting bring to life the colour, drama and pageantry of life as it was centuries ago in medieval England and Europe. There are also reenactments of colonial military action along with music and dance, all of which appeal to people of all ages. Single day tickets and weekend passes can be pre-purchased from vendors around Lithgow, at the Showgrounds gate, or on-line at www.ironfest.com.au.
