At the moment, anyone can view your profile. Soon, however, we will provide member-only features including the option for you to permit only those people you choose to access special areas of your profile.
How you look is up to you. We reckon portrait pictures of members faces are much more interesting for people to see than no picture at all. Stories are more interesting if we can see who's writing them. If you don't have a picture of yourself that you'd like to publish, you can always choose one of ours and then replace it with one of your own later on. Being Australian is like a family album -- we like to see who's really who in the neighbourhood.
Unfortunately, for technical reasons, it isn't possible to change your username. If you want a new username, simply register yourself under the new name and resubmit any stories you submitted previously under the old user name. When you have finished with the old username, send us a quick message from the Contact Us form requesting that we delete the old account.
Your email address cannot be seen by other users of the website unless you choose to publish it in the publicly viewable part of your profile or in a submitted story we approve for publication. Messages you receive from Being Australian are either from the Editors or from the site server computer responsible for handling the 'My Messages' portion of the site, in which case, the senders of messages you receive cannot see your email address.
No, there is no way to tell who has viewed your profile -- unless, of course, they send you a message directly (they need to be registered and logged in first). Messages you receive will indicate the page the sender was looking at when they clicked 'Send Message'.
Just share a few words about yourself, your life, perhaps mention what you do, what you're up to, where you are, where you've been and what makes life tick for you -- a few colourful details that help others experience the world as you see it. Not too long, though. 60-90 words is ideal. As the saying goes, 'brevity is the soul of wit'.
If you feel someone you know belongs here simply invite them on our web form. When you do, we'll send them an automatic email invitation on your behalf with instructions on how to register.
No problem - it's okay to forget things. Simply go to our Password Retrieval page and type your email address in the form provided. We'll email you the password associated with your email address.
Easy! (although we'd rather not lose you). Simply log in, then Contact Us with your request to cancel membership. We'll send you a final email confirming fulfillment of your request.
Absolutely! In fact, we often find the most interesting submissions often come from people visiting from and living in other countries. So, if you've got an experience to share, share it with us. We're certain Australians will be interested to know what being Australian is like for you. What's more, we reckon you'll find Being Australian just as intriguing as if you were an Aussie.
