Humour and authenticity! After all, we reckon laughter is the best route to contemplation. That doesn't mean all content on Being Australian is humorous. But the best stories of peoples' experiences are those that give people a laugh and cause them to think.
Also important is truthfulness. We want people to know that what they see here is real-life from real people no matter what the circumstances may be. We want people to know Being Australian as an authentic 'warts-n-all' gallery of people's experiences. No sugar-coating.
Submissions gathered here will eventually be used in the planning and production of orchestral, film and documentary media content that we are planing for a future Australia Day broadcast and learning projects for young Australians. Everyone whose submissions are used in the creation of these works will be individually and publicly credited on this website.
From time to time, we may want to use words or images posted here to help promote the project. Permission will always be sought from the originator of the content before it is used as a promotional concept.
When the online archive reaches a critical mass (and we're not certain yet when that would be), it will offered as a gift to the National Library in Canberra, along with copies of all electronic media product arising from this project. We are committed to leaving behind a permanent and continually renewable audiovisual gift to Australians of future generations.
Not yet, but stay tuned... Our plans includes member groups for members to join geographic groups (e.g. town or postcode) and interest-based groups (e.g. particular Australian experiences) to give people a way to network and connect to real-life opportunities for enriching their experience of all things Australian.

Being Australian is an Internet-enabled communications project giving people a way to record and share experiences in their lives that remind them of being Australian.
People send in words and pictures illustrating something that made them think, "That's very Australian!" or something that made them feel 'Australian'.
Being Australian makes sure stories are family-friendly, before publishing them here. Someone who sends in a story receives an automatic email letting them know when their story is viewable and shareable with friends.
From time to time, Being Australian will run on-line polls and contests so the public can judge the best entries.
Being Australian is "democratising the conversation" people have about what it feels like to be Australian.
So, Being Australian will be guided by story popularity determined by the public to plan the documentary film and original score, classroom content and other pathways for connecting people to each other's experiences.
No problem - it's okay to forget things. Simply go to our Password Retrieval page and type your email address in the form provided. We'll email you the password associated with your email address.
The logo is an adapted thought-bubble, reflecting the thought you have when something you experience makes you think, "That's very 'Australian!" or makes you feel 'Australian'.
Absolutely! In fact, we often find the most interesting submissions often come from people visiting from and living in other countries. So, if you've got an experience to share, share it with us. We're certain Australians will be interested to know what being Australian is like for you. What's more, we reckon you'll find Being Australian just as intriguing as if you were an Aussie.
