Submissions are first checked by our hard-working editors before being published to make sure those submissions are family-friendly. Approval does not usually take very long. Usually the same day - and you can check on the current status of all your submissions at any time.
Any pictures (up to three) that capture your experience and help tell you story are pictures we'd like to see. We know from feedback we receive that the best pictures are those that are authentic and really capture the moment, that make us feel like we are there with the person taking the photo. So, where possible, plan your shot and have it tell part of the story as vividly as you can. Of course, family-friendly rules apply. For more info on how to take the best shots, click here.
No. You retain the copyright on all written and visual content you submit that is rightfully yours. By submitting materials to Being Australian, you are confirming that the material is rightfully yours and you grant Being Australian certain nonexclusive rights to use your material, but you retain the copyright. Please see our Conditions of Use for complete details about copyright.
Up to three photos at this time are allowed per story. If there are additional pictures you'd like to add, simply create a new submission and call it something like "Part 2" and be sure to reference the first submission (which you might call 'Part 1') so everyone knows that the two submissions are linked.
If you don't want the photo to be shown at all, please attempt to contact the member who posted the image by clicking the mail icon on the page featuring the story with the photo in question. As Being Australian is a project of goodwill, we expect members will have no hesitation in honouring reasonable requests to remove photos. Unfortunately, Being Australian CANNOT make people remove photos that do not violate our terms of service. However, if you object to a photo featuring your likeness, contact us and we'll see if we can produce an outcome satisfactory to everyone.
To report photos or content of any kind that you consider offensive, simply look for the 'report abuse' option in the menu on left hand side of the page. The Being Australian team will monitor complaints and remove content as necessary.
