When you're driving in Australia...
an experience of cars
If you're about to visit Australia for the very first time, or are already here, it's always a good idea to keep in mind that Australians drive on the left-hand side of the road as distinct from our cousins in America or Europe or in many other places where the steering wheel is found on 'other' side of the vehicle.
I once almost got myself run over by a B-Double (also known as a 'tractor-trailer' in the US) when pulling onto a highway from a side road and forgetting which way I was supposed to look before entering traffic. OUCH! - that was close. That momentary loss of concentration produced a lot of noise from panicked airhorns whizzing past my radiator.
Once you're in traffic, it's a simple matter of following the car in front. They'll generally show you the way. But if you're from another part of the world where driving is done properly when passing drivers coming the other way on your left, then it's best to concentrate because being Australian means driving on the left-hand side of the road and not the left-hand side of the vehicle.
