My job - photographer to the stars

an experience of everyday life

There's a very famous person and her husband (hint:Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban) who visit Sydney from time to time. They were visiting with their new baby recently. And it's always media mayhem when they do. I know. I'm part of the mayhem. While waiting for them to appear at the home where they stayed, I took a few shots of the scene.

Being part of 'the scrum' is pretty interesting. Like firefighting - hours of boredom peppered with a few seconds of high anxiety. There is a sort of competitive cameraderie. You want 'the shot', and so does everyone else. So, you have to cooperate 'cos you know they've gotta eat too. Being a papparazza isn't glamorous like some people think. There's a lot of standing around waiting for something to happen. Finding a bathroom when you need it can be a challenge, too - especially for us girls.

Before I became a professional photographer, I was auditioning for roles in films and commercials. But with the Oz film industry the way it is and hungry actors just about everywhere you look, it was time to earn a crust another way. I like it. It's kind of fun and pays pretty well.
