Urban river goes to sea an experience of everyday life I was walking along my street recently when suddenly the skies opened up. Running alongside the street is one of those water channels. Normally it's almost empty except for the usual tiny trickle. The area where I live (Paddington, NSW) is like a giant dishbowl capturing all the rain and funnelling it into one big concrete drain travelling under the houses. (Sometimes, my brother and his mates go exploring the drains, which is illegal but they do it anyway.)   Anyway, it was fascinating to watch as the trickle of water grew in just a few minutes to an absolutely river. You could actually watch the level rise up the side wall of the channel to at least a metre.   The sad part was watching all that water rushing out to sea because our useless government wants to desalinate sea water instead of harvest all this free rain water.   Thanks to Shelley Goss from Brighton (Victoria) on 11/11/2008 share it pin it print it report it
