Farmers march on the big smoke

an experience of everyday life

Back in 2007, my neighbour and I got up early to drive five hours to Sydney to march on state parliament. It wasn't something we wanted to do. But the bludging dills running the joint are buggering up our farms. It was strange seeing so many other farmers and their wives and families gathered together in the middle of the city. But it was clear that's what we had to do to get our point across -- give us back our property rights and quit stuffing up rural life for farming families. My son took some photos of the rally.

Here's the blurb from the farmers federation website -- ''The NSW Farmers? Association is encouraging Sydney residents and interested landowners to attend the 'Day of Reckoning' Rally this Sunday in Hyde Park. The Rally is being organised by the Coalition Against Private Over-development (CAPO) and will protest against unfair planning laws in NSW.

The NSW Farmers' Association supports calls for increased property rights whereby just compensation is provided for loss of land or income and for changes of land use. The NSW Farmers' Association also supports the call to give planning powers back to local councils.''
