Life in Newman, WA an experience of city and town When driving through the red west of WA, it's always comforting to arrive in a town where the comforts of home can be found. Newman is just such a welcome sight in the middle of the iron ore wilderness that's helping to fuel our Australian economy. Where there isn't concrete or grass, the ground is often dark rubble of iron ore. Pity is wasn't gold, instead. The people are cheery. It's a mining town originally set up by the BHP company. But its big enough now to feel like a real Australian community, although a very modern one since the town is so young. You won't find historic homesteads or ancient architecture in Newman.
