Walking the streets of Sydney

an experience of city and town

Almost every day since January 2003, an amazing Sydney man, Alan Waddell, set about walking the streets of Sydney - literally every street in every suburb.

After his wife of 60 years died in November 2002, he knew he had to find a way to keep on living and so began walking the streets in his home suburb. Tiring quickly of walking the same streets over and over, he decided to try streets of neighbouring suburbs. The circle of streets and suburbs Alan covered began to grow ultimately covering every suburb.

Alan's adventures are documented by his family on Walk Sydney Streets, a truly fascinating website where there are more than one thousand intriguing photos of Alan walking past the strangest letterboxes, weird architecture, peculiar fences, secret places most people miss and the smallest lanes and roadways you would not think could possibly qualify for a mention on any street map. Take a look and experience a slice of Australian life from the kerbside by exploring Sydney's streets with Alan's help.
