Musk lorikeets, eagles, galahs and eucalypts... an experience of everyday life I came across this little book a few years ago and was touched by the use of Australian themes in these prayers. There are many prayers for many different occasions - all short and full of wonderful Australian imagery. I can open the book any time and be humbled as I am transported to bubbling springs, the arid desert, eagles, galahs and eucalypt forests.   I would like to share some of my favourite ones:   MUSK LORIKEETS   Greenescent   in the evening sunlight,   a flock of musk lorikeet   jet low over housetop   into the next clump of gum trees.   Lord, their mastery of flight   makes me long with a vast longing   for a similar skill   in that other environment   in which I live and move   and have my being.   EAGLE AND GALAH   God of the eagle and the galah,   the mountain and the anthill,   of great saints and petty people,   let you love be in the hearts of all,   and your truth in every mind.   May the mighty become meek   and the weak become strong,   the foolish become wise   and the clever become humble.   O God, save your Australian people   and bless this your inheritance.   EUCALYPT FOREST   Enable us,   most loving Creator,   to reach high for the light   as do these noble trees.   Grant that in our reaching   we may also grow straight.   ASTRONOMICAL   Source of the universe,   when on a clear winter's night,   far from town or city light,   we walk beneath the Milky Way   and lift faces up, wondering,   teach us not our insignificance   but the majestic love   which numbers each human hair   and calls us all be name.   Thanks to Lana Zgoznik from Melbourne on 14/07/2010 share it pin it print it report it
